Tesla and Panasonic team up for battery development

A couple of interesting news items are now on the E&T web site. First, Tesla Motors and Panasonic have agreed to collaborate on developing next-generation battery cells for electric vehicles. The car-maker will use Panasonic’s battery cells in its newest battery packs. The cells use nickel-based lithium-ion chemistry, and are favoured for EV applications because of their high capacity, light weight, durability, and long life. Full story here: http://bit.ly/8cBb9y

In other news, £333m of contracts have been awarded for new super Aircraft Carrier work, with contracts worth £333 million awarded by the Aircraft Carrier Alliance (ACA) to companies across the UK to help to build the Royal Navy’s new Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers.
