Steve Ballmer: goodbye, “world’s worst CEO“.
Today’s infographic paints a rather stark portrait of Microsoft’s stock market performance during Ballmer’s years as CEO. From a record high on the day Bill Gates stood down and Ballmer took over in January 2000, to something closer to half that value, the last 13 years have not been kind to Microsoft’s market standing and reputation – despite the company revenue actually tripling during that time. Way to go, CEO!
And so it has come to pass that Ballsy will retire as CEO within the next 12 months. Good news/bad news, you decide.
Still, it was nice to be reminded about the Zune again. After a trying day in the office, that brought a welcome smile to our faces.

In the interests of balance, it’s only fair that we acknowledge the success story that is Windows Phone, as it becomes the number three player in the mobile market, relegating Blackberry to a distant fourth. Windows Phone is even number two in certain territories: the Mexicans love it, apparently. Ay caramba!
