This month the IET’s local and technical networks are holding a great variety of events – many of which will interest students and young engineers. There are a number of courses and workshops available for example, covering everything from negotiation and presenting through to technical report writing and TRIZ problem-solving methodology. IET events this April – #engineering and technology dates for your diary

This month there’s a great selection of technical visits being held by IET Local Networks (LNs). These include tours of the National Composites Centre in Bristol, a chance to look around a National Grid 400kV substation and a visit to Airbus to discuss engineering challenges in the Martian environment. Slovakian student wins Electrolux Design Contest with Portable Spot Cleaner

Slovakian student Adrian Mankovecký has won first place in the 2011 Electrolux Design Lab competition finals at the Room Home Intelligence Conference, held this week at London’s Business Design Centre. Mankovecký, who studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, Slovakia, took the top prize with his design concept the Portable Spot Cleaner, after beating 1,300 entrants from over 50 countries.
