As you may already be aware – unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of weeks – Pokémon GO, the augmented reality game for smartphones, has taken the world by storm. It is the successor to Nintendo’s smash-hit Game Boy games from the 1990s, featuring many of the same beloved characters, such as Pikachu. New #Nintendo3DS console launched with better 3D screen – an annotated infographic

Something for the weekend, and gamers on the move, with the news that Nintendo has announced an improved version of its 3DS handheld console, featuring additional controls and some pretty snazz-ay technology to spiffy up the 3D side of things. Addressing one of the main issues with the current 3DS – namely blurred images when viewing 3D graphics – the new version makes use of a parallax barrier to correct this and keep the images sharp. Games consoles 2014 – beyond the #PS4, #Xbox, #WiiU – an annotated graphic

Never mind your Sony Playstations, your Microsoft Xboxes and your Nintendo Wii-Us. Today’s infographic celebrates the lesser-known lights of the gaming world: the Ouya, the GameStick, the M.O.J.O., the Steam Machine and more. Whilst unlikely to have the gaming giants quaking in their pixellated boots, this is a refreshing crop of pretty cheap and plenty cheerful alternatives, attractive as both an entry-level introduction to modern gaming and as a left-turn adjunct to the big boys’ mainstream offerings’. With the gaming world apparently in equal parts excited, confused and meh about Microsoft’s recently announced XBox One, we thought we’d share this joyfully nostalgic infographic about the history of video games to remind us all of the simple fun we used to have. Sony PS Vita vs Nintendo 3DS – an annotated graphic

Sony’s financial woes and lacklustre sales continue, as the company admits that its PS Vita games console has not been the runaway success it hoped it would be. Even more galling, when compared to arch-rivals Nintendo’s 3DS handheld system, the numbers are way off for Sony, with 2.9 million Vitas sold compared to 20.5 3DS consoles. Nintendo Wii U controller – an annotated graphic

The new Nintendo Wii U is as much about the controller as the console. A touchscreen and motion-sensors allow game play on both the controller or on TV, where new HD graphics put it on a par with its rivals.
