Inflatable incubator could help cut #refugees infant mortality – an annotated infographic

Here are the numbers. Every year, approximately 150,000 babies are born in refugee camps. Every year, approximately 27,500 of these are likely to die, due to a lack of sufficient incubation.

A desire to arrest this horrifying statistic in places already war-torn and unstable is behind this prototype inflatable incubator.

MOM is a cheap, electronically controlled device designed to save premature babies by providing a safe space for them to be placed in while they recover and grow.

MOM has won the 2014 James Dyson Award.
